The Shahada is the Islamic declaration of faith: 'Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah' (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah). It is the first and most fundamental pillar of Islam. Accepting the Shahada with sincere conviction makes a person Muslim. It affirms Tawhid (oneness of Allah) and the prophethood of Muhammad ﷺ. The Shahada is the first words a newborn hears and the last words a Muslim should say before death.
