Surah YunusBenefits & Virtues
Surah Yunus is a 109-verse Meccan surah on revelation, Tawhid, and the fate of earlier nations. It mentions Prophet Yunus only briefly (10:98).
What this surah teaches
- 1That the Quran is a book of wisdom, and the response of those who doubted it.
- 2The accounts of Nuh, Musa and Pharaoh as warnings.
- 310:98: a town that believed in time and was spared, the people of Yunus.
- 4That guidance is Allah's to give, and the Prophet ﷺ was not to force belief.
Popular claims to treat with caution
These are often repeated online, but they are weak, disputed, or we could not trace them to a reliable source. They are listed so you can recognise them, not as established virtue.
The dua of Yunus, "La ilaha illa Anta, Subhanaka, inni kuntu min az-zalimin," is in Surah Yunus.
It is actually in Surah Al-Anbiya (21:87). The Prophet ﷺ said no Muslim calls upon Allah with it for anything except that Allah answers him (Jami' at-Tirmidhi, graded acceptable by scholars). It is often confused with this surah because of the name.
How to read this page
We keep three things apart: what the Quran itself says, what is reported in hadith (with its collection and grading), and what is only popular practice. A virtue report describes a recommended deed and does not make it obligatory. For rulings or personal practice, ask a qualified scholar. Our approach is explained on the about page.
