When to Give Sadaqah
Voluntary Sadaqah can be given at any time, any day. There is no restriction on when you can give charity.
The Prophet (PBUH) encouraged charity on Friday. Giving Sadaqah on Friday carries extra reward.
Charity given in Ramadan is rewarded immensely. The Prophet (PBUH) was the most generous in Ramadan.
Sadaqah al-Fitr (Fitrana) must be given before Eid prayer. It purifies the fasting person from shortcomings.
Giving Sadaqah during difficulties shows sincerity and can remove calamities. It is a means of protection.
Secret Sadaqah is best as it protects from showing off (Riya). The Prophet (PBUH) said it extinguishes Allah's anger.

Understanding charity in Islam
Sadaqah (صدقة) comes from the Arabic root sidq, "truthfulness" — the idea being that giving charity is proof of the sincerity of your faith, not just a nice gesture. It covers far more than money: the Prophet ﷺ taught that removing something harmful from a path is Sadaqah, a kind word is Sadaqah, and even "your smile for your brother is Sadaqah" (Jami at-Tirmidhi). The financial form — what most people mean when they say Sadaqah — has no fixed rate or threshold, which is exactly what separates it from Zakat.
مَّن ذَا الَّذِي يُقْرِضُ اللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا فَيُضَاعِفَهُ لَهُ أَضْعَافًا كَثِيرَةً
“Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over?”
