Sehri and Iftar Times in Pakistan - Complete Guide

How Sehri and Iftar times are set in Pakistan, the Sunnah of sehri and iftar, and where to find accurate times for your city.

Sehri and Iftar times change every day and every city. This guide explains how the times are set, what the Sunnah says about sehri and iftar, and where to find accurate times for your city in Pakistan. Ramadan 2026 has passed, so this page is now a lasting guide rather than a timetable. The next Ramadan is expected around early February 2027, subject to moon sighting.

Quick answer

Sehri ends at the start of Fajr (true dawn), and iftar is at sunset (Maghrib). For the exact minute in your city, use our prayer times pages or the prayer timetable. Times differ by several minutes between cities such as Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar.

How the times are set

  • Sehri ends when true dawn (subh sadiq) appears. The Quran says: "Eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct from the black thread" (Quran 2:187).
  • Iftar begins at sunset. The Quran says to complete the fast "until the night" (Quran 2:187), and the Prophet ﷺ taught that when the night approaches and the day departs and the sun has set, the fasting person breaks his fast (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim).
  • The method. Our times use the University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi method, the standard in Pakistan. Local mosque timetables may add a few minutes of caution to the sehri end.

Sehri: the Sunnah

  • Eat sehri. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Take sehri, for in sehri there is blessing" (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim).
  • Delay it, within limit. Eating close to the end is the Sunnah, but stop at the time announced, not after it. Many Pakistani timetables end sehri a few minutes before the Fajr time as a precaution, which is acceptable.
  • A fast without sehri is still valid. Sehri is a Sunnah, and skipping it does not break the fast.
  • Intention (niyyah). Intend the fast in the heart. Saying it aloud is not required.

Iftar: the Sunnah

  • Hasten to break the fast. The Prophet ﷺ said people will remain in goodness as long as they hasten to break their fast (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim).
  • Dates and water. Anas reported that the Prophet ﷺ would break his fast with fresh dates before praying, and if there were none, with dry dates, and if none, with sips of water (Sunan Abi Dawud and Jami' at-Tirmidhi).
  • The iftar dua. "Dhahaba az-zama'u wabtallatil-'uruqu wa thabatal-ajru in sha' Allah" ("The thirst has gone, the veins are moistened and the reward is confirmed, if Allah wills"), recorded in Sunan Abi Dawud and graded hasan by al-Albani. See dua 53.
  • Do not rush the prayer. Break the fast, then pray Maghrib.

Why dates differ from year to year

The Islamic calendar is lunar, so Ramadan moves about 10 to 11 days earlier each year in the Gregorian calendar. In Pakistan the start is decided by moon sighting, announced by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, and it can differ by a day from Saudi Arabia. Always wait for the local announcement. Our Hijri date page shows today's Islamic date.

Fasting hours

The length of the fast changes with the season. When Ramadan falls in winter the days are shorter, and in summer they are longer. The times in each city are on our city pages.

What breaks the fast, briefly

Eating or drinking deliberately, intentional vomiting, and marital relations during the day. Eating or drinking by mistake does not break the fast (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim). Different schools and cases have details, so ask a scholar if you are unsure. For those who cannot fast, see our fidyah calculator.

Planning Ramadan

  1. Check the announced start date and your city timetable.
  2. Plan sehri and iftar meals that are light and balanced.
  3. Make a Quran reading plan.
  4. Prepare for the last ten nights. See the last ten nights and i'tikaf.
  5. Calculate zakat and Sadaqah al-Fitr.
