It then speaks about the angels who record every deed and divides people into the righteous and the wicked.

Main Themes

Four signs

The sky splits, the stars scatter, the seas burst forth and the graves are overturned (82:1-4), after which every soul knows what it sent forward and what it left behind.

The question to man

Verses 6-8 ask what has deceived man concerning his Generous Lord, who created him, proportioned him and balanced him and assembled him in whatever form He willed.

The recording angels

Verses 10-12 say there are noble angels as recorders over each person who know whatever they do.

The Day of the command

Verses 17-19 close by saying that on the Day of Judgment no soul has any power for another soul, and the command that Day is Allah's.
